Easily digestible proteins are good to be consumed. The sources include hard boiled eggs, linear meats, fish, lean beef, beans, pork tenderloin, Soy, cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt and skimmed milk. Thick proteins and the proteins that are hard to digest should not be consumed in diabetes. Proteins derived from the vegetable pulses increase in their digestibility when cooked over low heat for a long considerable period, whereas animal proteins cooked for a longer period makes it hard and difficult to digest.
The fiber rich foods should be included in a diabetic diet. The good sources of fibers are the green leafy vegetables and fruits. The fruits with low glycemic index are good for the diabetes. Inclusion of a liberal amount of fibrous food in the diet automatically cuts down fat and carbohydrate intake.
There should be a liberal amount of daily fluid consumption in diabetes, to hydrate the body. The recommended fluid intake is 2000ml/day, including water and juices.
Additional fat soluble vitamins may be taken, but under the advise of a doctor.
The essential minerals like calcium, phosphorous and zinc should be included in the diet for diabetes through various food sources. Phosphorous helps to maintain the blood pressure.
