    Treatment for Actinic Keratosis

    Actinic Keratosis
Actinic Keratosis is a common precursor to skin cancer. These are most typically found in fairy skin people and they may arise on any part of the face or body. They are caused by exposure to the Sun and severe burns. They are red and scaly patches, and look as, I feel like sandpaper.

Many people shrink it off, because they think it is only a minor cosmetic problem, but actinic keratosis should be treated properly because it can turn into skin cancer.

Liquid nitrogen to freeze the lesions which normally is used in treatment of cryosurgery and then a scab will fall in a few days. In the majority of cases, cryotherapy is distributed in two separate two-week sessions and it is painless procedure.

The alternative treatment with prescribed creams that patients may apply at home is useful when there are multiple sites to treat. 5-FU (5-fluorouracil) is a heavy duty cream recommended for topical chemotherapy. This is effective, but it must be applied for few weeks.  The overall side effect is red and inflamed skin and many people reported a burning sensation. To lessen the skin irritation experts recommends Aldara therapy. It is a 2-3 week cycle. It covers all bases of cryotherapy with the conjunction of Aldara.

All these treatments work, but patients often cannot complete them because it takes long time. Now, a new gel may work so fast. According to study, Ingenol Mebutate Topical Gel can take only 3-4 days as compare to weeks, for clearing pre-malignant skin lesions.

This is a new gel topic has been approved by the FDA, says people can use this for a week instead of days and it irritates skin lesser than Aldara. As per experts, the treatment of actinic keratosis becomes easier with new topical gel.
