Liver is the largest gland in the body and it regenerates itself. It is located right side under the lower rib cage. Detecting liver damage is simple blood tests to explain the presence of enzymes in the blood. In normal condition these enzymes combined with the liver cells.
Liver plays very important role in the body like:
1. It stores fuel gleaned from sugars,
2. Create needed proteins for the body,
3. Helps in removing toxic and poisons substance

Serum Glutamic Pyruvate Transminase
SGPT is a type of enzymes present in the liver cells. When cell get damage, it leaks this enzyme into the blood. SGPT is the most sensitive marker for liver cell damage. SGPT rises instantly in acute liver damage in paracetamol (acetaminophen) overdose or viral hepatitis. SGPT level may or may not correlated with the degree of cell death or inflammation.
Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase
SGOT is an enzyme that is commonly present in liver and heart cells. SGOT is released into blood when the liver or heart is damaged. SGOT level will increase when there is viral hepatitis infection which cause the liver damage and myocardial infarct or heart attack. There are some medicines which increase level of SGOT. SGOT also called by another name, AST or aminotransferase.

Bilirubin
Bilirubin is a yellow-orange chemical compound found in bile and it is major breakdown product of hemoglobin. When liver cells are damaged, the level of bilirubin may rise. It is removed from the body in the form of stool.
Albumin
Our liver also makes albumin, it is an essential protein which circulates in the blood. The level of the Albumin are low in people who suffering from chronic liver disease, because liver unable to make normal amounts of albumin.
Globulins
Globulins are type of proteins which is made up of immunoglobulin’s produced in the liver cells. Immunoglobulin is a substance which is made of blood plasma, it is also called gamma globulin or immune globulin. The level of Globulins increases when a person has chronic liver diseases like chronic hepatitis. Its level may raises in growing children state and normal pregnancies.
The detection of higher value of SGPT and SGOT need routine observation in daily medical checkups. If any people suffering from obesity, alcohol consumption, diabetes, abnormal cholesterol have some liver problem. The liver function test can be done by any diagnostic lab by the prescription of doctor.
